Economic cooperative-distributed model predictive control for constrained linear systems: enlarged domain of attraction-based stabilizing approaches

Abstract: In this seminar, the speaker will address some research topics related to the stabilizing synthesis of linear model predictive control (MPC)strategies, focusing on economic goals (two/one-layer schemes),distributed-cooperative architecture, constrained unstable systems, and their integration. The proposed MPC laws include three ingredients to enlarge its domain of attraction and potentially avoid unfeasibility problems, namely: artificial steady-state, slack variables, and terminal equality constraints solely on non-stable states. Some illustrative examples from chemical engineering will be used to highlight the theoretical properties of the MPC strategies presented in this talk.

Minibio: Márcio A. F. Martins currently holds a position as an Associate Professor within the Department of Chemical Engineering at the FederalUniversity of Bahia (UFBA). He graduated in Chemical Engineering (2008) from the Federal University of Bahia and received his PhD’s in Chemical Engineering(2014) from the University of São Paulo. He also currently holds a position as a full professor of the Industrial Engineering (PEI) and Mechatronics (PPGM)Programs, both from UFBA. His research interests are (i) System and Process Control and Optimization, acting on control theory and its application, statistical inference and artificial intelligence; (ii) Engineering Education, focusing on conception and development of pedagogical tools and practice centralized on students.
